“In Pearl Clouds” is part of a series of three posters depicting the connection between the human world and the wildness of nature.
Story of the Poster
I have long observed a female raven named Fable, who lives in Scotland with Amy and her family*. It is thanks to Amy’s films that I learned a lot about ravens and how special, intelligent, and talented they are. When I planned the third painting in the poster series, I knew I wanted to depict Fable. I sent Amy a message, described my idea, and asked for permission to draw her raven friend. She agreed! I was extremely happy because I couldn’t imagine any other animal better symbolizing freedom and the beauty of wild nature. I used screenshots from Amy’s films to accurately replicate the arrangement of Fable’s feathers and body structure. I decided to draw her against a backdrop of pearl clouds to emphasize the extraordinariness of nature.
Pearl clouds, or polar stratospheric clouds, were something I first saw while living in the far north of Sweden. I looked at the sky, unable to believe that such a phenomenon was possible. I repeatedly said to my partner in sheer awe, “This can’t be real, this isn’t really happening!” It was then that I decided I had to find a way to weave this beauty into my artwork.
Compared to the other two images in this series, this one doesn’t contain additional elements suggesting a connection with the human world. This is a deliberate choice to emphasize that nature can exist without the presence of humans, and this is its natural state. Additionally, I wanted to give the image a slightly mysterious atmosphere to draw attention to the fact that there are still many secrets that nature hides from us.
